Would you do irl what you do in your blog?

This is something I’ve thought quite a bit about regarding my blog. Would you do in real  life what you do in your blog, if not then why do you?

Bloggers who show and tell Everything

I love personal blogs, bloggers who put up alot of photos of themselves and uninhibitedly show every little aspect of their life, but Im not sure I’d like that for myself. I know that when I read these type of blogs I often end up feeling like I know that person, as if its a friend of mine, but in reality she has no idea of who I am.

In real life I’m a very private person, I don’t like telling everyone my business, exactly what I’ve done throughout the day and whats going on in my life. If I’m not even telling my closest friends and family these things, then why would I write it on the blog?

Sharing your life to strangers – When we blog we are sitting quitely by our computers just ranting on about ourselves as if we are writing a diary or telling it to our best friend, but I think many people forget the fact that their blogs can be accessed by anyone from anywhere in the entire world.

Usually I dont even think this matters all that much. I dont think that you over-exposing your life will haunt you or cause you problems in most cases but I am still not at ease with the fact of sharing everything to total strangers.

When I’m blogging I am often aware of this and sometimes filter out what it is I actually want to show on my blog. In this post I have used a holiday photo of me as an example, where I’ve painted over myself as a type of censorship ^^.

Do I really want the entire world to see me in a bikini? This year I might put up one bikini-shot tho just because my new bikini is so awesome :D, but you get my point. I also often think of how I am presenting myself, how I am being percieved. If I blog about my work and what I do it feels very out of context to suddenly have a bikini shot of myself. The only exception for me regarding this is if the photo would be artsy in some way, then it’s nolonger about me as a person, but as a photo itself.

Am I fake for filtering what I put up on my blog? – Now you might think that If I censor myself and filter what I want to put on my blog I’m not being real, but I am! I am trying to be like I would be in real life. Instead of showing every aspect of my life I try to keep it real by telling you my thoughts and showing you what I do. If you now one day see me put up personal photos of my life on the blog it’s because I’ve allready approved them as being appropriate to be seen by anyone.

Privacy was lost when Facebook blew up

Facebook has also been a huge step in the new trend of showing every aspect of our lifes. People load up pictures of everything, sometimes even so private that I feel awkward watching them :D.

As I said previously I dont think there actually is very much harm in over-exposing your life but I think its important to actually be aware of the extreme reach you have trhough your blog and facebook account. In these times when even new born babies get Facebook accounts people are giving up more and more privacy all the time, often without even thinking of it.

On the second image you can see a friend of mine with her tiny baby, both ”censored”.  This is a photo I took a couple of weeks ago and I recently asked her if it was okay for me to put up the photos from that day on my blog,  she said they dont want their baby to be ”online” yet and I fully understand and respect that. Some things are just meant to be kept private.
