My first clay animals

As I said in my previous post I had already played around with the different clays i got this christmas.
These were the first things i made, a cool penguin and a little deer :].
These were made with another clay but it feels the same as the white one. The deer is just a decorational one but for the penguin I made a hole at the top thinking I’ll turn it into a charm.

Carving out the shapes

Today I woke up to three little pieces of dried clay bricks waiting fo me to carve them!
Before carving the shapes out i drawed the motives on them so i’d have lines to follow. As you see they also have little silver loops at the top so they can be hung on a necklace. Before even making the clay bricks I made the loops with a triangular body so that when I stuck them in to the middle of the fresh and wet clay i could press the clay together knowing it would keep the loop stabil and not just slide out.
As you can se I have carved out the basic shapes on both of them now, the next step will be to smoothen all the edges and then work on the depth on them. I for example want the foxes eyes to stand out like big bulging eyes :].
Im not sure how it will turn out but Im hoping for the best :D.
I’ll might have a new update on these later today :].

Playing with clay

This last christmas I got some clay from Santa that i’ve been playing with today ^^.
I’ve already done some other stuff with the clay but today i really wanted to create charms (that you hang on necklaces you know :] ). I had some ideas that I sketched down, the fox is one of them. As my clay is in a solid color Im thinking that i will paint them with acrylic and then try to give them a glossy coating by painting them with some type of varnish.
I dont have much to show today since it got too dark to take good photos but I’ll take some tomorrow!
i didnt get very far today either, all I have are these bricks of clay. The reason why I’ve made bricks of them is that I find it easier to actually carve out the shapes when the clay has dried and gotten hard instead of trying to mold it while wet. When wet it starts cracking and it gets really difficult to work with.
Oh well, time to end the day with a good nights sleep. Nighty!

The old cat-purse sewing project

I just found these photos and remember I never showed you these!
A couple of months ago I got fabrics from my mom wich inspired my to drag out the old sewingmachine again.
The thought of selling homemade stuff through my future blog sounded like a fun idea at the time so I started thinking of fun stuff I could sew. It had to be special in its design but also easy to make, so I could make several at the same time.
This shape however turned out to be more difficult than I thought. Trying to figure out how to sew the lining without any seems showing took me and my mom about half an hour to figure out, and once we started sewing all of the tiny corners y just got too difficult to handle. Looking back on it I also realized that the shape isn,t very unique, does the cat head-shape ring a bell?
I dont know how I forgot about Hello kitty! That cat head is not to be messed with.
I had some other sewing things going on too but because of issues with the sewing machine and lack of room and time for it I havent sewn anything in months. But I will, believe me.. i will >_<.

My tacky toad

Heres a christmas gift I got from my brothers girlfriend, its a funky ceramic toad-coin-bank!
When she gave it to me she said ”it reminded me of you!”, which might sound like an insult but she was spot on! :D I loved it. It was beautifully tacky and I love its brainless facial expression ^^.
My boyfriend had wanted a coin bank eversince we saw the movie UP :D.

Beautiful silverback gorillas and orangutangs

I have always loved animals since being a little kid and these last couple of weekes there’s been alot of awesome documentaries about orangutangs on tv and I just now saw one about the Silverback gorillas in Rwanda too.
It’s unevitable to be amazed by these giant creatures with human-like features. In the documentary today they spoke about how few silverbacks there are left and unless we make an effort to save and protect these animals the might not be here for the next generation, our kids, to see. My god, what a loss that would be.
I sometimes actually feel more for animals in documentaries than I do for humans , its strange but I guess there’s some sort of innoscence in them that gives me the feeling that it is our duty too look after them and make sure that evil people dont abuse them.
I found these different photos through google and just looking at them inspires me to draw :D. I love their gigantic bodys and how strong they look (and are!).

The two faced man

This is a sketch I made years ago, I just found these photos of it ^^. It was my boyfriend who challenged me by wanting a mans face, that when turned around… is still a face! :0
It was really fun to make, i should do more of these. I should sketch more often in general. I need a sketchbook :/
I will definately buy one this month.
Btw, which face is your favourite? :D
